La Magdalena The Magdalena parish has its headquarters in what was the church of the dominical convent of San Pablo. The convent was the centre of the inquisition, with the founding of the Tribunal del Santo Oficio in 1480, although it was soon moved to the castle of San Jorge in Triana. The original layout of the convent church was of the typical Sevillian gothic-Mudejar design. The church was burnt out in 1353, destroyed by a storm in 1504, and it eventually collapsed in 1691 while attempting to vault the ceiling. Only the chapel of the Quinta Angustia remains from the original building. In 1709, Leonardo de Figueroa managed its reconstruction, building a baroque church while keeping the medieval ground plan. Inside, it is decorated with painted murals and plasterwork.
