The Teatro de la Maestranza was inaugurated by Her Majesty Queen Sofia on May 2, 1991. The work of the architects Aurelio del Pozo and Luis Marín, its location in a privileged setting in historic Seville, its exceptional technical characteristics, the quality and variety of its programming (it has opera cycles, lyric recitals, dance, great performers, piano, flamenco, young performers and concerts by the ROSS) and, above all, the enthusiastic response of the public, have made it in a few years the great scenic space of the South.
The Maestranza has become in its long years of life one of the most prestigious lyric coliseums in Spain, with projection among European fans. On its stage have paraded the most prestigious lyric companies in the world and the greatest voices. Singers, conductors, symphonic ensembles or instrumental soloists who are already part of the legend and who have definitely left us (Luciano Pavarotti, Alfredo Kraus, Victoria de los Ángeles, Pilar Lorengar, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Sir George Solti, Mstislav Rostropovich, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Odón Alonso, García Navarro, Romano Gandolfi, Isaac Stern, Gian Carlo Menotti, Wolfgang Wagner, etc.), left their mark in the heart of the Theater.
